Call Break is a strategic trick-taking card game designed for four players, utilizing a standard 52-card deck.

This game shares similarities with other trick-based games, notably Spades. In Call Break, the terms "Hand" and "Call" replace "trick" and "bid," respectively. Each player must make a "Call" or "Bid" indicating the number of hands they aim to capture. The primary objective is to secure at least the called number of hands in a round while also attempting to prevent opponents from achieving their call. Points are tallied after each round, and after five rounds, the player with the highest cumulative score emerges as the winner.

DEAL & BID

A game consists of five rounds or deals. The initial dealer is randomly selected, and subsequent dealing rotates counter-clockwise. The dealer distributes all 52 cards, giving each player 13 cards. Following each deal, the player to the dealer's left places a Bid, estimating the number of hands they expect to win. The call proceeds counter-clockwise until all four players have made their calls.

GAME PLAY

After all calls are made, the player next to the dealer initiates the first move by playing any card. The suit of this card becomes the led suit, and subsequent players must follow suit if possible. If a player lacks the led suit, they must break it with a trump card (any Spade). If they have no Spades, they can play any other card. The highest card of the led suit wins the hand, unless the suit was broken by Spade(s), in which case the highest Spade wins. The winner of a hand leads the next hand. This continues until all 13 hands are played, after which the next deal begins.

POINTS

Points are updated after each round. Successfully capturing at least the called number of hands awards one point for each call made. Extra captures add a decimal point value to the total score (e.g., a call of 4 with 5 hands captured results in a score of 4.1; a call of 3 with 5 hands captured results in a score of 3.2). Failing to meet the called number of hands results in subtracting the call amount from the total score.

RESULT

The winner is determined at the end of the fifth round by the highest total score.

If a player bids 8 (eight) or more and captures hands equal to or greater than their bid, they instantly win the game at any round.
