The description of Sound Meter
Site Editorial Commentary:Measure environmental noise with your device.
Sound Meter is the 4th tool in the Smart Tools collection, designed to measure sound pressure levels (SPL) using your device's microphone. Are you bothered by excessive noise? This app helps you quantify it! The Sound Meter app utilizes your phone's built-in microphone to measure noise volume in decibels (dB) and provides a helpful reference.
IMPORTANT note: Most smartphone microphones are designed for human voice frequencies (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). Since voice calls don't require high-performance microphones, the maximum measurable value is LIMITED by the manufacturer. Extremely loud sounds (100+ dB) might not be accurately detected. For example, Moto G4 (max. 94dB), Galaxy S6 (85dB), Nexus 5 (82dB).
This app is perfect for quickly checking if your voice is too loud in a lecture or determining if the TV volume is at a comfortable level. The included calibration data (see 6th image) shows major Android devices calibrated with a professional sound meter (dBA). You can rely on the results for typical noise levels (40-70dB). Use it as a handy auxiliary tool for sound monitoring.
