Satellite Director AI Editor's Review

Satellite Director simplifies satellite dish alignment using augmented reality. It pinpoints satellite locations in the sky, making setup easy for TV and internet. User-friendly and accurate, it's a must-have tool for satellite installers and enthusiasts.

Comprehensive Analysis

Satellite Director uses your phone's sensors to overlay satellite positions onto your camera view. This augmented reality feature greatly simplifies finding the right azimuth and elevation. The app boasts a comprehensive satellite list. While the interface is intuitive, accuracy relies heavily on your device's compass and GPS. Some users may experience performance issues on older or less powerful devices. Overall, it's a valuable tool for satellite dish alignment.

Key Advantages

  • Augmented reality overlay for easy satellite location
  • Large satellite database covering global providers
  • User-friendly interface suitable for beginners

Areas for Improvement

  • Requires device compass and GPS for accurate positioning
  • Performance can vary depending on device hardware

The description of Satellite Director

Site Editorial Commentary:Finding a TV satellite, in azimuth, is difficult. Satellite Director helps.

Finding a TV satellite or antenna azimuth can be challenging. Traditionally, it involves calculations using your gps location, magnetic variation, compass azimuth, and satellite position before using a compass.

Satellite Director simplifies this process, acting as a comprehensive satellite finder and dish alignment tool. See tips for success below.

Access to sensor data (GPS location and compass) is essential for calculating the satellite's position in the sky.
Access to internal/external storage is required for saving screenshots or modifying the satellite list (add, delete, or change satellites).
camera access is needed to simulate a 'look through view' or 'mirror effect,' assisting in aligning the satellite dish (LNB arm) with the on-screen arrow.

Satellite Director prioritizes user privacy; it does not collect or share any personal or non-personal data and is completely ad-free.

Warning: A compass sensor is mandatory for this app to function. Phones or tablets without a compass are not supported. Ensure your device has a compass before downloading.

Consider checking out "Satellite Locator," which utilizes GPS for satellite positioning.
note that the accuracy of the compass may vary between devices. Compare your phone or tablet's compass with a real compass for optimal results.

Compass calibration is often necessary before use. Metal covers or cases with metal/magnetic closures can interfere with the phone or tablet's compass. Avoid using such covers.
Furthermore, external electromagnetic fields, iron, or age can also affect the compass's accuracy. In such cases, compass calibration may not fully resolve the issue.
Precision largely depends on the quality of your phone's hardware.

Warning: Users of custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod/Cymod may encounter compatibility issues with Android, potentially causing the app to malfunction. Please direct any complaints regarding compatibility to Cyanogenmod/Cymod.

This application is completely ad-free!
Support the continued development of this app by watching some of my videos on YouTube. Advertising revenue from the videos helps fund development efforts, including testing devices and satellite equipment.

How it works:
Simply enable GPS or manually enter your GPS coordinates, select the desired TV satellite or antenna, and point your phone towards the sky. The target satellite is found when the white ball is within the white circle and the cyan ball is within the cyan circle. Align the offset arm of your satellite dish with the cyan arrow displayed on your phone to achieve azimuth alignment.
Additional features such as selectable audio tones, camera preview, continuous mode (no pause), color pickers, and user-defined satellite positions can further assist in locating the desired TV satellite. The satellite database includes over 280 satellites.
You can optionally capture and store a photo (resized) or screenshot by tapping the director tab. These are saved exclusively to your phone's memory card.
Optionally, receive an indication of proximity to iron objects (dish/pole) through a green/yellow/red bar.

Satellite positions are sourced from Agi's database. While some positions may appear slightly inaccurate (e.g., Hispasat 30°w listed as 29.96°w), they are generally highly accurate.

For new phones with Android 4, the "Settings" screen offers options to correct compass readings in case of errors!

3 tips for success:
1- Maintain a safe distance (at least 30 cm) from the iron dish, LNB arm, or pole.
2- Calibrate the phone's compass by waving it in a figure 8 before starting.
3- Optionally, calibrate the compass by rolling the phone along its length axis approximately 2-3 times (works on some phones).
