Bid Whist is an exciting and popular partnership trick-taking card game designed for strategic minds and team players. Played with a standard 52-card deck plus 2 jokers (totaling 54 cards), this game pits two teams of two players against each other, with partners sitting opposite one another.The primary objective in Bid Whist is for a team to reach a score of 7 or more points, or to force their opponents to a score of negative 7 or more points. Teams accumulate points by successfully bidding for and winning tricks, which are referred to as 'books' within the game. The game starts with each team at zero.
*No Trump bids will double your points whether you win or lose the bid, adding an extra layer of risk and reward.
**The Bidding Phase:**
The bidding process moves clockwise around the table, starting with the player to the dealer's left, and each player gets only one chance to bid. A bid consists of a number from 4 to 7, followed by a suffix: 'uptown', 'downtown', or 'no trump'.
The numerical value indicates the number of books above 6 that the bidder's team commits to winning. For example, a bid of 5 signifies a promise to win at least 11 books (6 + 5). Since there are 13 books available in total, the highest possible bid is 7.
*Uptown (or 'high') indicates the intention to name a trump suit where high cards will win the tricks.
*Downtown (or 'low') signifies the intention to name a trump suit where low cards will win the tricks.
*No Trump implies that no trump suit will be designated. If a team wins the bidding with 'no trump', they will then decide whether high or low cards will have preference.
**Enhanced Gameplay Options:**
Bid Whist now includes options for 'Easy' or 'Traditional (Hard) Bidding'. With Hard Bidding, players can only view the Kitty Cards after selecting the Trump Suit and Direction (Uptown or Downtown) of their hand. Easy Bidding allows players to see the Kitty Cards before making decisions about the Trump Suit or Direction, including No Trump bids. This adds strategic depth and accommodates different player preferences.
