The first computer version of FreeCell is believed to have originated in 1978 for the PLATO system. A Microsoft developer, captivated by this early version, implemented a version for Windows. It was initially bundled with Win32s as a means to test the 32-bit thunking layer. FreeCell remained a relatively niche game until its wider release as part of Windows 95.Since its popularization, FreeCell has been adapted for numerous platforms. Why should you choose our version? We've strived to recreate the complete FreeCell experience within a compact application, featuring power moves, hints, and an undo function (located in the top right corner of the title bar). Furthermore, we've incorporated subtle adjustments to enhance playability on smaller mobile devices. Notably, you can drag and drop entire columns without needing to select individual cards – only valid cards will move, while the rest will snap back. Cards are also automatically moved to the foundation when possible. The scoring system is simplified to count only the number of moves; a lower score indicates a better game.
In FreeCell, only the top (exposed) card of each tableau pile is available for play. It can be moved to a foundation pile, a free cell, or another tableau pile. Within the tableau, cards are built down in sequence, alternating in color. Any card can be moved into an empty space. Blocks of cards cannot be moved unless the required number of free cells and/or tableau spaces are available to facilitate the movement of each individual card. To move a partial pile, simply drag the entire pile – the game will intelligently adjust. Victory is achieved by filling all four foundation piles.
