Site Editorial Commentary：Farm Precise provides customised, farm specific, weather-based crop advisories.

Climate change and increasing weather uncertainty have transformed agriculture and farming into a high-risk endeavor. Traditional decision-making tools used by farmers are becoming unreliable due to shifting weather patterns and evolving pest and disease behaviors.

Rising costs of agricultural inputs, declining productivity, market volatility, and low returns are making farming a less appealing source of livelihood and income.

There is a pressing need to equip farmers with a dynamic decision support system tailored to their specific farm, providing weather-responsive advisories across critical aspects of agricultural operations. This will empower them to mitigate weather-induced risks, reduce losses and production costs, increase productivity, and improve incomes.

To address this need, the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) has developed FarmPrecise – a mobile application that delivers dynamic, weather-based crop management advisories customized to crop and farm-specific conditions. This empowers farmers to make informed and beneficial farming decisions.

FarmPrecise offers unique advantages:

* It is participatory: Farmers actively co-create advisories by providing essential farm and crop-related information and feedback.
* It generates weather-responsive, crop-and-farm-specific farming advisories covering all aspects of the crop cycle on a daily basis.
* It is dynamic: It adapts to likely changes in weather conditions throughout the day, providing tailored advisories accordingly.
* It is customizable: It adapts to farm specificities such as the types of crops grown, sowing dates, fertilizers used, soil type, and soil fertility.
* It provides integrated and holistic solutions, emphasizing environmentally-friendly practices.

FarmPrecise Advisory modules: The app provides farmers with five advisory modules, delivered daily or as needed:

Module 1: Weather Forecasts providing 5-day forecasts, updated daily.

Module 2: Integrated Nutrient Management offers weather-responsive, yield-targeted optimum doses of chemical, organic, and botanical formulations, tailored to crop requirements and soil conditions.

Module 3: Irrigation Management advises on when and how much to irrigate, based on crop water requirements, soil conditions, and weather patterns.

Module 4: Integrated Pest and Disease Management provides environmentally friendly and approved chemical plant protection measures based on crop growth stage, weather conditions, and anticipated or observed pests/diseases. These advisories encompass both preventive and ameliorative measures. A photo upload feature helps improve pest and disease identification.

Module 5: General Advisories promote good agricultural practices such as crop-specific land management, in-situ soil and water conservation measures, seed treatment, crop geometry, trap crops, and identification of pest-disease infestation, as required.
